 Biography/Accounts
Lance Corporal Wesley James White K.34757 was born in Abbotsford BC on 27 July, 1920, one of six children of Silas Franklin and Jean Wetmore White. As a youth he worked as a messenger for the CPR telegraph service and with his chum George Grant K.34730 became an avid amateur telegrapher. Both men volunteered on September 19, 1939 and were placed in the Royal Canadian Corps of Signals as signalmen in the 10 Fortess Signal Company. After serving at various postings on the BC coast including Point Grey, Point Atkinson, Little Mountain and Yorke Island, they were attached to the Winnipeg Grenadiers and dispatched to Hong Kong on 27 October, 1941. Lance Corporal White was reported prisoner of war 25 December 1941 and died in Bowen Road Hospital 6 October 1942 from the effects of malnutrition and diptheria. He was awarded the 1939-45 Star, the Pacific Star, the War Medal, 1939-45, CVSM and Clasp. He is buried in Hong Kong\'s Sai Wan Military Cemetery in Grave 2, row G, plot 1
