My name is Maurizio Purcaro, I’m a Italian and since 10 years I live and work in the Netherlands.
my great-grandfather Carlos Gonzalez was a private soldier of the 20th Northumberland Fusiliers (1st Tyneside Scottish battalion). He died the 31st October 1917 at the age of 26 in Belgium. Carlos was the grandfather of my mother (she is Colombian, and since almost 40 years she live in Italy).
I have some information of him (the Medal Card, 4 medals and 2 photo’s) but I still looking for more information about him.
He was a Colombian young boy and he enlisted as volunteer in the A.M.C. (p.te R/4/063165). My family told me that he enlisted in Canada, but I’m not sure about this, because a English Historian friend, told me that from his records, my great-grandfather were enlisted in Cardiff.
From the Medal Card of Carlos Gonzalez, I know that he arrived in France on 05-04-1915
Later he were transferred to the 20th Northumberland Fusiliers (1st Tyneside Scottish -Pte.55903), and he died of wounds of a bomb the 31 October 2017.
I’m looking for more information. Maybe in Canada there is more but I don’t have any idea where I can search it! Perhaps you can help me and give me some tips of advices.
In waiting for you answer, Thanks in advance for your attention.
